Membership Benefit How do I register for a Junior Olympic event?

Go to our Junior Olympic Page and choose the event you want to register for from the Calendar. Registration for each event is done through the hosting Yacht Club, not US Sailing. If you are not able to register online for an event, you will need to contact the hosting club.

Membership Benefit What do I need to register for  a Junior Olympic Event?

A US Sailing Membership is required for all Junior Olympic Events prior to registration. There is a youth option for $25 for a year. To join US SAILING online, visit Join US SAILING; To join or renew by phone, please call the membership department at  401.683.0800  401.683.0800 .  We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express. Membership Benefit What is a US SAILING number? Is this the same as my child's sail number?

A US SAILING Number, also called a Member ID, is a number assigned to your child when he or she becomes a member of US SAILING.
It is a seven character string, six numbers followed by a letter. This is what you are asked for when registering for Junior Olympic Events and many regattas. You can
look up your Member ID here.

A sail number is the number displayed on the sail of your child's boat, this number is unique to the boat your child is sailing.
While your child's US SAILNG Member ID will remain the same every year, your child's sail number will change when they begin sailing a new boat.

Membership Benefit What is a US SAILING club/class number?

This is the US SAILNG Member number for the yacht club or class that your child is racing through.
Some regattas require a sailor to register in affiliation with a yacht club, or through the class association of the type of boat your child is racing. If your child is representing or being listed as affiliated with a yacht club, that club must also have a current US SAILING membership.

Membership Benefit Do I need to be a member of US SAILING for all regattas?

This is decided by each event individually.
Check with the yacht club hosting the regatta to see if you need to be a US SAILING member to register.

Membership Benefit Do I get a discounted registration fee for being a member of US SAILING?

This is decided by the event and the yacht club hosting the event.
Some regattas require a US SAILING membership to register and some offer a discounted registration fee for those with a US SAILING membership. Check with the yacht club hosting the event to see what the requirements an d fees are.

Membership Benefit This is my child's first regatta, are there any resources available for parents?

Yes, The United States Optimist Dinghy Association (USODA) has an Optimist Parent Manual.
The Optimist Parent Manual gives you some idea of what to expect as an 'Opti Mom' or 'Opti Dad'.  Click for .pdf files of
part one and part two of the Optimist parent manual.
