President's Club
Dear US SAILING Supporter,First, let me offer a special thank you for continuing to support US SAILING. Since I became President of US SAILING in October 2009, I have gained an even more in-depth understanding of the organization and its role within the sport of sailing. I am convinced, more than ever, sailing would not be where it is today without US SAILING’s members, volunteers, and staff. I have dedicated my life to the sport and know that US SAILING is currently in a position to make great strides to advance the sport of sailing in the United States.
In my view, our most important activity is planning for the future. There are many issues to work on, but we will start with a few fundamentals:
Increasing visibility
Upgrade our Championships
Upgrading race management and simplifying the rules
Identifying ways to further support yacht clubs, community sailing and other local organizations, which are the foundation of sailing
Developing equitable handicap rating systems
While we still have a lot of work ahead of us, we recently hosted the inaugural Yacht Club Summit in Chicago on April 2-3, 2011. 185 sailing organizations sent over 400 representatives to participate in the event. Based on feedback from the attendees, we are crafting a plan to expand our support of organizations and keep the networking and sharing of best practices active; recaps can be found online here. I feel heartened that our board, volunteer committee members and staff are ready to move ahead to make lasting changes on behalf of sailing. However, we need financial support to fund these initiatives and make them a reality for future generations of sailors.
I would like to ask that you join me and Jack Gierhart (Executive Director) in supporting these projects at US SAILING by joining the President’s Club. Over the years, the President’s Club has gone through many transformations. While I am President, I will personally look to members of the President’s Club to help lead advancements at US SAILING. I hope US SAILING and the future of the sport can count on your support. As a member of the President’s Club you will receive regular communications from me outlining our progress and challenges. Additionally, you will be invited to a special President's Club event at our Annual General Meeting in Annapolis, MD in October of 2011, receive recognition as an annual donor in the 2011 Annual Report to Members, and a President’s Club pin.
